Bebek Bengil Dirty Duck Diner

Bebek Bengil Dirty Duck Diner

Bebek Bengil @ Ubud, Bali

The restaurant is undergoing renovation at this moment but I could still see the stream of customers flowing in every now and then regardless of the dusty and dirty path at the entrance.

This restaurant covers a large area, renovated under an unique theme and layout.

See? Some of the customers can even lie on the ‘floor’ , relaxing or taking a nap after eating.

Along this path are dining seatings in open concept, under different roofs.

There are huts like this too.

One can see a lot of such stone-carved statues at the surrouding.

Here’s the signature ‘Bebek Bengil’ hut that attracted most of the tourists or customers taking photos.

At the first page of the menu stated how the name of ‘Bebek Bengil’ is derived. [...]

Traditional English Afternoon Tea of The E & O Hotel

Traditional English Afternoon Tea of The E & O Hotel

Traditional English Afternoon Tea @ 1885, The E & O Hotel

At 1885, Traditional English Afternoon Tea is served in an elegant setting starting with a selection of very thin sandwiches, like thinly sliced cucumber, smoked salmon and roast beef sandwiches. This is followed by scones with home-made strawberry jam, clotted cream and a selection of cakes.

I have finally made it during the first Sunday of July, with YY company. It was a delightful afternoon tea session after dragging for almost a year. *My goodness!*

The 1885 English Afternoon Tea . The photo above shows serving for two persons.

What surprised me the most is the sweetness level. All the cakes and tea pastries served here are not too sweet, just adequate. If it’s at other places, I would have easily turned ‘jilak‘ after consuming a few pieces.

The clotted cream is super fine and soft. Light-weighted, not creamy rich. Strawberry jam is mildly sweetened.

Chok Dee Thai – Simply Delicate!

Chok Dee Thai – Simply Delicate!

Chok Dee Thai @ Burmah Road

Before I finalized to go to this Thai restaurant, I always walked around the office and imitated Thai accent, “Maa Roy Thai…Aroi Thai…Chok Dee Thai…” and they would show the face of “????” or “what the heck?”! at me (this ‘siao cha bor’ ) as they had no idea at all what I was talking about. (The three names above are actually the names of Thai restaurants at town. I was indecisive which one to bring our US guest to).

On Thursday, we were caught in a downpour on the journey to Chok Dee Thai . Most of us were 80% drenched by the time we reached the entrance but our disgust were soon swept away by the charm and warmth of the taukeh soe and also the DELICATE dishes offered by Chok Dee Thai.

The ‘taukeh soe’ is a MUST to mention. :) I couldn’t take my eyes away from her for the first 10 minutes after I entered the restaurant as I really thought her apperance is 80% resembles the 泰国著名法医普缇(Porntip Rojanasunan)). Don’t you think so?! The hairstyle in particular!

The tables in the restaurant were soon 90% filled up within half an hour despite of the heavy rain.

Mr. A, B & C with beers and two ladies with lassi drink and longan drink.

Judging from the serving size at Chok Dee Thai, which is relatively smaller if compared to other Thai restaurants, you may interprete this as MORE expensive too. I got no objection on this. :)

My responsibility is to zha fit ordering all the recommended good dishes to make everyone eat happily. Therefore, trust me dear, I couldn’t care less about the price at all! Wahahaaa!!!!

Green Curry Chicken. The green curry is not spicy (according to my level of acceptance) but it’s impressive enough. Serving in a small clay bowl, one could easily taste the sense of delicacy in preparing this dish. The curry is cooked finely with tender chicken meat served in small pieces.

I was a bit reluctant when I was introduced Deep Fried Kailan as it always ended up to be TOO OILY from my past experiences at other places. I bet you I would have surely regretted if I didn’t order this at that night. At Chok Dee Thai, this dish is far too good! The leaves are very crunchy with minimal oiliness.

Lemon Steamed Fish (clear soup). The soup is superb enhanced by lemon’s sourness! We couldn’t stop scooping for more and more! The fish is fresh and properly cleaned internally.

Since we have already ordered one fish dish with white/clear soup-based, therefore we were recommended to take Red Tomyam.
Seafood Tomyam (Red). Well! The flavour is better in terms of smoothness and milky fragance if compared to other tomyams. It uses fresh milk(!)

I chose MEDIUM for spicy level to suit all in general but the two males sighed! Upon seeing such situation, the taukeh soe offered this chilli for them to add into their tomyam soup to increase spiciness.

I personally felt that MEDIUM is actually too mild. If a person like me also can tolerate the MEDIUM level, then it’s better for you to choose HIGH and above. :)

At this juncture, someone even commented so,”After eating here, I started realizing that the lunch we had at Golden T*iangle last week was really beh khi leh !”

Prawns with Curry Paste. Prawns are fresh with creamy curry paste.

Long Beans fried with Roasted Pork, Sambal. I actually tasted sweetness in this dish. Sambal?! mild though.

Otak-Otak (Seafood). I was a bit disappointed to find more cabbages than seafood in this dish. I wished that the texture of the whole otak-otak could be a little bit firmer.

Fried Kailan with Salted Fish. Pretty standard.

Stuffed Chicken Meat. Normally for this dish, I ate thick flour skin but at Chok Dee Thai, it’s the opposite.

Thin flour with juicy chicken meat which is just right, not too dry.

Dessert.

Total bill is RM230+ including drinks and rice, for 5x persons.
I WILL BE BACKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!

Kirishima Bento – Am I admiring the food or the tableware?!

Kirishima Japanese Restaurant (霧島)@ Cititel Hotel

I need to blog this out as I want to see if there’s anyone else like me out there?!

Firstly, I felt like playing masak-masak dining at Kirishima. I think the bento below is suitable for ladies loh. 賞心悅目!

Secondly, I did not know whether I was enjoying eating the food or was I enjoying eating with the tablewares served instead?!

Story starts like this…….

We were seated at the most behind table. We waited for a long while before we managed to get one waitress to take our orders.

After that when we settled with our orders finally, then only I realized how dumb I was.

“Nah, press this button for assistance lah!!!!!! Your eyes ‘takk’ stamps hor?! “ I cartoon-ed at myself.

Table setting ready with this heavy-weight tiny bowl of long beans with slight spicy curry flavour. Japanese ala-local?! :)

King Prawn Rolls (RM24++)
- Deep fried king prawn with salmon and avocado layered topping .

I was a bit doubtful when this dish was served as I couldn’t identify is this the King Prawn Rolls that we ordered ?! Why? As I only could recognize this dish by its signature prawn head!

Where the heck is my PRAWN HEAD???????? I saw their blogs and the the menu itself have prawn head one woh. :)
The King Prawn Rolls tasted really as glamourous as its dish name (minus the absence of prawn head :) ). It’s stuffed with salmon+avocado+fried prawn all rolled into one. I truly enjoyed these rolls!

Kirishima Bento (RM38++)
- Special box with sushi, deepfried chicken, tempura, small soba, vinegared dish and appetizer served with egg custard, pickles, salad, small braised dish, tea pot soup, pudding and fruits.

This is the one that I wanted to blog! I really felt like chit thoe ma ma sak leh! It’s considered ‘fun’ eating with all those tiny little dishes! When I ate one by one, I took each of the plate/bowl up and studied properly how the material and shape of them are.

Every dish in this bento set comes in small serving and very attractive combination of tablewares.

Tempura sauce and soya sauce (rectangular shape) – see above.

Fried garlic rice (round shape, comes with a cover, external is golden colour (see above, bottom left corner).

Eel sushi (octagon shape, white colour).

Salad (triangle shape, thick and cloudy glassware, I like this one!)Sashimi (round-edged square shape) – salmon is rolled up like blossom flower and wasabi is decorated at the side like a petal!

Underneath the triangle one is the soba (cylinder shape, mimic bamboo).

Deep fried chicken (square shape, blue-dot all around with dark lining’s porcelain, I like this one too! )

Vinegared octopus with seaweed (glass wine, small, crystal clear). Awesome both in taste and decoration!

Tofu (Protruding-corners, square shape, white colour with caligraphy-like painting as background).

Tempura (same like the sashimi, round-edged square shape- Aiyoh! This one is considered repetitive item already loh!)

Pudding (in red circle – petal-edged round shape, cloudy glass). Haiyoh! Luckily the glassware caught my attention if not I would have missed this unique green tea pudding oh!
Fresh fruits (sharp square shape, clear transparent glass).
Chawan mushi (porcelain glass, small).

Clear soup with crab sticks, mushroom slices and carrots (served in tea pot) . One can pour the soup from the pot into this little dish (it’s actually part of the pot’s cover).

Unagi To Soba Takikomigohan Gozen (RM38++)

- BBQ Japanese eel, soba noodles and braised rice served with tempura, egg custard, small appetizer, pickles, salad, fruits and miso soup.

Unagi (served like ancient emperor type. A round porcelain plate in a two-storeyed plastic tray)

Fried garlic rice (stainless steel pot with wooden box)
Tofu (clam shell shape)
