It’s Sunday night. Four tables (including our table) were occupied at that moment. About 7.40pm.

We ordered a steamed siakap (RM28), 冰梅排骨 (ice plum pork ribs) (RM8) and lor hon zhoi.

The drinks were served about 5 mins later.

Later another 20 mins, our first dish was served. Nah, this is the one. Not bad lah but not as ‘sour’ as we expected loh.


Then, another 15 mins gone and we were still waiting for our second dish. I closed my eyes wanna sleep already!!! At that time it’s 8.35pm already! Look below , we were still waiting… 25 mins gone liao! I saw another two tables who came after me have already got their fried rice lah, fried bee hoon, fried vege and etc served! If I had known this earlier, I would have ordered plate rice or noodles lah!


A ‘person in charge’-like guy who carried notebook into the restaurant walked up the staircase then came down, then looked around but never border to pay attention to all these. I was disappointed. :(

One of the waitresses aware about our LONG PAUSE in eating and went to ‘talk’ to another young waiter. Result – NOTHING.

Later, another guy who took order came and asked what dishes were we lack of still. I requested to cancel the steamed fish and lor hon zhai if it’s not been prepared yet. He came back and said, “the lor hon zhai I cancel for you already,the steamed fish is in progress. “OK lah!”

I really poo hui in my heart. After they served us the pork ribs, in between got 20 minutes, the lor hon zhai still not yet prepared at all and can be cancelled?! OMG!

Then, another 10 mins gone, here came the steamed fish. I wished I have never ordered that. Not fresh.

The worst thing is we still got to fork our RM50+ for this meal. Poo hui!

Wide spread of desserts.
The spread of food we had that night (from top to bottom) :
Mashed potato, corn kernels. BBQ sauce/ mushroom sauce / black pepper sauce.
Naan, tandoori chicken. Fried rice, mee goreng.
Cabbage poriel,Brinjal sambal, Dhall. Lamb Rogan Josh, Chicken Curry.
Roast Beef, Baked Cured Salmon with cheese. Chicken lobak, Crispy vietnam prawn roll.
Spaghetti, Bolognaise Sauce, Fresh Parmesan cheese. Cream of Asparagus with buns.


Salad bar.

Fruits and coffee/tea.


BBQ Seafood of that night – serving prawns, lala, squids, fish and crabs.


Overall the dining ambience is great with average food (considering the price is only RM38++). Mai hiam beh pai lah!
For improvement, I will prefer the buns (to be softer), pasta in salad bar (to be softer), tandoori chicken (to be harder & crunchier), mee goreng (to be more wok hei). Dessert wise- layer cake (to be removed), BBQ seafood (to have more varieties). The food needs to be replenished faster.
Friulvini Verduzzo (Fizzy) @ RM 55.00. [This is my choice of the night!]
This is straw yellow with greenish reflections. Delicate, slightly fruity, pleasantly aromatic. Full-bodied with slightly acidulous flavour. This aperitif wine goes well with first course, with confectionery or fruit.

TerraNoble Sauvignon Blanc 2005 @ RM 63.00

This 100% Sauvignon Blanc is yellow colour with some greenish tones. It has intense fruity aroma in which you find tropical fruits, especially pineapples. It’s a very fresh wine, not bubbling, dry and well balanced. It has a good structure and a nice natural acidity which has a long permanence in mouth. Ideal as an aperitif too, with seafood and fish. This wine is drunk best at 7C -8C.


Schubert “Hardwicke Reserve” Cabernet Sauvignon 2002
(Recommended Retail Price is RM 118.00. Promotion Price now is RM 60.00)

Schubert is a new winery in New Zealand. This deeply coloured wine exhibits an intense nose of blackberries, plum and dark chocolate with notes of walnut and spices. Full bodied and extremely well structured with layers of super ripe tannins complemented by a long, sweet and dark fruit filled finish.

No fixed menu. Generally the food varieties cover western, chinese, malay, indian and BBQ seafood (based on whatever available from the market on that day). No japanese food ya.

This VIP section is suitable for group or family gathering. That’s where we were seated.

The washroom. Nope, I did not sneak into male washroom to snap this lah. Left is “female”, right is “male”, middle – I can’t find the logo, could it be for those who are confused? :)

I thought upstair is gloomy therefore I carried the candle up. Argh! It’s not leh! Very brightly lit instead. *slightly disappointed as I expected ‘haunted’ feeling loh. :) *

Doesn’t this look great for private function or wedding reception?


Hardwicke House has private rooms for groups of 10 to 100. Ideal location for social funtions, reunion dinners, press conferences, weddings, engagements, birthday parties, bridal showers, receptions, corporate functions and more!

The ambience is cozy and cool.


This corner (counter items) is a little bit beh khi.


Winter melon soup, pretty oily. Why not serving some lou for tong uh? :)


GREEN TEA is totally beh khi. Not only the colour is out, it has no green tea taste at all.

This is the ONE! :) This has been served as my drink instead. I had a few bowls of this.

Cold Cut (冷盤) – all the cold dishes tasted good!

Tako Sunomono (章魚醋物) [1 serving]


Eel Tofu (鳗魚豆腐) [1 serving]

Higawari Chukamono (每日醋物) & Hijiki (日式海帶絲) [1 serving]


Sashimi Karapachio (西日刺身) [2 servings]


Hotzz Abalone (熱熱鲍魚片) [this is for 3 servings]. We ordered 12 servings in total. :)

Shichiten Sashimi -3 kind 7 pcs (七) 刺身 – Very fresh.

Chuan Hua Fish (川花魚) -forgot to take photo! This one tasted very good! Recommended!
The main dishes of can cater for 3-4 persons therefore it’s recommended to order ONE serving only to test the taste.
Orange Pork Chop (橙汁豬排) [1 serving] – So So ONLY! Avoid ordering this lah.

Hong Xiang Spicy Lamb (紅香辣味羊) [1 serving]- This one also not bad.

Japanese Yaki Udon ( 日式烏冬麵) [1 serving] – This one VERY beh khi! From this dish alone, I know it’s not that en tao chef who cooked one! Hmm! No Jap feel and very salty.

Chawan Mushi ( 茶碗蒸) [1 serving is 1 cup]- SO SO only. Why? The steamed egg texture is a tad solid. Waiting time long though.
Daily Steamed Fish ( 每日蒸魚) [for 1 serving] – So So only.
So small serving leh! I expected the whole tail of fish with head one! : )
Unagi Mushi ( 酒香鰻魚蒸) [for 1 serving] -This one is really good!

Due to the waiting time is too long for this dish, we ended up had multiple orders.

Salmon Teriyaki (照燒鮭魚) [1 serving] – Pretty good.

Salmon No.1 (鮭魚第一號) [1 serving] – Pretty good too. Fresh salmon.

Motoyaki Scallop ( 辣味扇貝) - How can we skip ordering this?! :) Juicy medium size.

Mix Tempura ( 盛合天婦羅) [1 serving] – Not bad at all.
Red Dragon Golden Squid & Prawn (火龍雙鮮) [1 serving] - so so only. Too sweet.

Agedashi Tofu (日式炸豆腐) [1 serving] – Pretty good!
Sawa Kani Tempura (炸小蟹) [1 serving] – No good. The flour is too thick OH NO!
In overall it’s an enjoyable meal! Since there are only four of us AND none of us are buffet-stomached, we couldn’t afford to eat a lot actually.
The buffet concept is same like TAO Japanese Restaurant. We had the same THIRSTY experience here, just like what we had after eating at TAO. Perhaps we ate too much of Hotzz Abalone (熱熱鲍魚片) and Motoyaki Scallop ( 辣味扇貝)?!
