Yer…Why Winter Warmers always like this one?!

Winter Warmers Coffee & Tea House @ Queensbay

I was happily entering the newly opened Winter Warmers at Queensbay on last Friday, who knows……it’s another ‘warm’ experience again. (Previous posts at Winter Warmer – our WARM experience! and Winter Warmer Set Meal ).

In summary, they couldn’t cope with the stream of customers (at ~2pm). Mind you, I observed same ‘face’ (management) as Gurney Plaza’s outlet one.

1) Dishes were uncleared on the tables unless you called them to do so.

2) Repeated times to request for ordering.

3) There are simply too many partitions and obstructions in the restaurant that the waitresses /waiters could harldy notice you  especially during such ‘cannot-cope’ situation.

4) I saw a number of tables requesting to leave immediately if the dishes they ordered were still not prepared.

5) I saw one of the persons in charge kept on apologizing to the customers for their late delivery of dishes and etc.

6) He showed you a very ‘discouraging’ look when you walked up to him to ADD order.

It was having Jasmine tea 50% discount promotion for members.

Jasmine Blossom (Orig price RM9.90 -50% = RM4.95)

Jasmine Milk Tea (Orig price RM9.90 -50% = RM4.95). Hmm…this one tasted better than the above one. [...]

*我接受唔到囉!* Tsuruya & Khunthai

*我接受唔到囉!* Tsuruya & Khunthai

During the first week of August, I was treated at these two restaurants which I found out to be under my expectation.

Firstly, it is Tsuruya Japanese Restaurant @ E-Gate.

The set dinner menu is full of meat (chicken, pork and beef) dishes. I couldn’t find something more towards tempura-sashimi combination type that attracted me. The mix and match choices are not versatile enough, compared to other Japanese restaurants. 我接受唔到囉! All of us had a pretty hard time in deciding which item to order.

Nabe Kaisen Kimuchi Tofu Set (Claypot Kimuchi Tofu with Seafood) RM28

80% tofu with limited seafood items. If not mistaken, er……..only clams?!

Kushi Katsu & Kare Raisu Set (RM26) [...]

The Chicken Rice Shop – Oh no! Why like that one?!

The Chicken Rice Shop – Oh no! Why like that one?!

The Chicken Rice Shop @ Tesco E-Gate

None of us has visited The Chicken Rice Shop for dinner session before, only for lunch. Therefore I did not know whether this ‘scenario’ is a norm for dinner time or …….?

I left this restaurant with disappointment after paying RM31.90.

Single Chicken Set – RM13.99

600cc @ Prangin Mall

The last visit during 2007 wasn’t a good one.

Human, forget and forgive. I forgot how my last visit was. I tried again the other day at Prangin Mall. The zha jiang mian + drink set has increased from RM8 to RM11+. I personally think that the ‘minus-pork’ version has made this dish losing its attractiveness.

Tao Yuan @ Campbell Street

I ordered mang min for two persons. It came so little nia leh! :) Anyway, I found it too salty. Last time I like this dish very much as it resembles the ‘wanton noodles’ that I like, and also the wanton mee served by Ah-Go-Go stall @ Padang.

Wanton Mee @ Balik Pulau New Market Food Court

See? The last time I came (probably 2 yrs ago?!), I ordered this. Seriously I forgot how it taste, was it good or bad?! This round I ditched the curry mee (again!) and ordered this, again! I was disappointed. Only the bowl itself is having the kochabi feel, not the taste. :(

Jurin Express Bento

Jurin Express Bento

Jurin Express Meal

Located next to Sushi King @ Gurney Plaza, New Wing.

Wah, I like this wall displaying all the chinese characters that come with “FISH”.

This free flow of Honey Green Tea (hot/cold) is thicker than what we normally have elsewhere.

Tempura Kani
Sushi rolls with crabstick wrapped within. Deep fried with tempura flour.
I was dissatisfied with this dish, mainly due to the tempura coat is not crispy. At one moment I thought I was eating ‘dim sum’ – siew mai skin?!
Here’s the cross section. You can see the crabstick in the middle of the sushi & seaweed is wrapped externally.

Maki/ Sushi Combo.
Beautiful layout of maki and sushi combo.

After having hands-on on how to make sushi (in the previous post), this again becomes an advantage for me to judge how a good sushi should be apart from taste and presentation. Both the maki and sushi are made not firm enough.

All bento below is RM50 nett.
Set A consists of Ginmutsu Teriyaki (cod fish), Chicken Ban Ban (boneless fried chicken chunks topped with Japanese sauce and mayonnaise), Ebi Tempura (deep fried shrimps in batter), Yaki Tamago (sweet omelette), Garlic Fried Rice and Miso Soup.
Deep fried cod fish, a waste but safe to serve. Ban-ban chicken – dry. All are either deep-fried or dry dishes. I prefer bento sets with ‘balanced’ dishes.

Set B consists of Sashimi (Salmon and Tuna), Unagi (BBQ Japanese eel), Tamago Kikurage (black fungus with chilies), Yaki Tamago (sweet omelette), Garlic Fried Rice and Miso Soup.
Again, black fungus with chillies is very chinese-cuisine style, not matching this grilled eel set.

Set C consists of Sashimi (Salmon and Tuna), Spicy salmon, Kakiage (Deep fried shrimps, squid and vegetables in batter), Yaki Tamago (sweet omelette), Garlic Fried Rice and Miso Soup.
The spicy salmon is something tasted rather weird, per my tastebud. Grill it will be safer than deep frying + spicy sauce!! The Kakiage is not crispy enough.

Set D consists of Karubi Beef (Stir fried beef with onions), Nama Ika Teriyaki (Teriyaki cuttlefish), Soft Shell Crab Karaage, Yaki Tamago (sweet omelette), Garlic Fried Rice and Miso Soup.

This set looks posh indeed. Cuttlefish is rather hard though. Beef is too well-done.
All the fried garlic rice in the above bento sets is not fragant enough and rather moist too. (Remember the garlic rice that I tried frying (in my previous post)?! :) )

Fried Maki and Sushi. I like this version. The fried layer made the maki special .

These were some of the sponsored gifts ! :) Vouch magazine, Chili Bao and Chili Red and free meal vouchers.
I didn’t get the chance to taste the green tea ice cream with red beans, therefore I do not comment on it.
Thanks to Jason & Gill for this 5th Flogger Gathering.
